”Step by step growing with dignity!” – Project Dedicated to Children with Fewer Opportunities

Children, especially those in rural areas, are victims of domestic violence and abuse, children with disabilities are deprived of affectionate and protective treatment, children who come into contact with public institutions where they are judicial have unpleasant experiences caused by lack of specially designed spaces and the lack of skills in the field of relational communication with minors. These are some of the great difficulties that disadvantaged children go through every day and that the team of the Development and Psychotherapy Association through Action has noticed in the community in which they work. That`s how the project idea "Step by step grows with dignity!" which it implements between January 1, 2022 - December 31, 2023 together with its partner Moreno Huset AS from Norway. Even large institutions of the county level joined the initiative, this being the Dolj County Police Inspectorate, the Craiova Detention Center, the Dolj Bar and the General Directorate of Social Assistance and Child Protection Dolj.

The objectives of the project are to improve the conditions for conducting judicial investigations involving children, to increase access to recovery and mental rehabilitation services for children with disabilities and to improve the skills of professionals in dialogue and interaction with minors. The project responds to the need to defend children`s rights by implementing in the 24 months of the project, viable, concrete measures designed to ensure the achievement of objectives.

 

The final target group is 1,207 children, especially children from rural areas, who are victims of domestic violence and abuse, children with disabilities who are deprived of affectionate and protective treatment, children who come into contact with public institutions in judicial investigations , children who will overcome the traumas and know their rights. A number of 70 professionals from partners and collaborators, respectively the Dolj County Police Inspectorate, the Craiova Juvenile Detention Center, the Dolj Bar, the General Directorate of Social Assistance and Child Protection Dolj will benefit from training in the field of child rights protection and will support the project.

Project activities include:

- acquisition of land;

- the construction of a building on the purchased land and the establishment of a community center that will provide services to the beneficiaries (eg, therapy and psychological counseling sessions, etc.);

- arranging a therapeutic garden;

- arranging two spaces for minors within two public institutions in Craiova;

- training of the 70 professionals from public institutions in the national child protection system;

- organizing a mobile caravan to promote respect for children`s rights at national level,

- bilateral activities carried out in collaboration with the Norwegian partner in the field of child protection.

- a slogan contest that will be addressed to vulnerable children whose winners will become ambassadors of dignity and will travel in a mobile caravan to promote the rights of the children that will take them around the country.

The project receives a grant of € 1,926,662 from Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway through the EEA Grants 2014-2021, under the “Local Development, Poverty Reduction and Increasing Roma Inclusion” Program. The aim of the project is to promote respect for children`s rights at the national level.
